Make Sure You Are Reading the Correct SDS

I was contacted by a customer with some questions about our ArmaKleen 4 in 1 Cleaner SDS.

This customer was interested in switching from their existing cleaner to ArmaKleen 4 in 1 aqueous chemistry.  After reviewing what the customer thought was the SDS for ArmaKleen 4 in 1 Cleaner, they had some concerns about the safety of ArmaKleen 4 in 1.  In the document they reviewed they saw the GHS pictograms demonstrating that the product was corrosive and could be a sensitizer.  The danger signal word was presented.  There were four strong hazard statements.

This understandably concerned the customer and I was asked review the statements in the SDS. Once we had a conversation, it became clear that the customer reviewed the SDS for our super concentrated product, ArmaKleen 4 in 1 Cleaner Concentrate

The product the customer was interested in was ArmaKleen 4 in 1 Cleaning Solution, and that should have been the SDS they reviewed. This customer receives parts cleaning equipment and service from our distribution partner, Safety-Kleen. They would be receiving the product in its pre-diluted cleaning solution format for the services they were being provided, which is the 4 in 1 Cleaning Solution.

The ArmaKleen 4 in 1 Cleaner concentrate is not intended to be used for parts cleaning as a straight concentrate.  It was designed to be used as the diluted cleaning solution.  Almost all our cleaners are designed this way.

Our concentrate SDS documents describe the hazards of handling the concentrate when you are mixing your own cleaning solution. Our cleaning solution SDSs describe the hazards of handling the pre-diluted cleaning solution.  It is important to make sure that you are reviewing the SDS that correlates with the product you will be using within your business, as it describes the hazards you will be encountering based on your application.

ArmaKleen provides SDS documents for both concentrates and cleaning solutions because we do have customers that buy the concentrate in drums and service their own parts cleaning equipment themselves. They would need both SDS documents to keep their employees safe and their businesses in compliance if they were doing it all themselves.
